Rateče

Rateče is a romantic village in the Municipality of Kranjska Gora, in the far northwest corner of Slovenia. It is located in the upper part of the Upper Sava Valley, between the Sava Dolinka and Ziljica rivers. The village is surrounded by fields, meadows, and pastures.

Tourism is important to the economy, and there are many holiday homes, restaurants in the area. Rateče is a starting point for hiking trips into the Julian Alps and the Karawanke mountains.

Every year on 15 August a local event is organized by the Rateče Tourist Association in the village square.

Zelenci

Zelenci are the second source of the Sava Dolinka and are located in the Upper Sava Valley between the villages of Podkoren and Rateče. Zelenci were formed by the Planica Glacier, which used to cover the valley between Jalovec and Mangart. In 1992, Zelenci ware declared as nature reserve and are home to many endangered animal and plant species. They are recognizable by their emerald green water color and are a great idea for both summer and winter excursions. Zelenci do not freeze in winter and their constant temperature is around 6°C.

Planica

The Planica Nordic Centre is a nordic skiing complex located in Planica, a glacial valley below the Ponca Mountain, located approximately 2 km west of Rateče and 8 km from Kranjska Gora.

It has one ski flying hill, seven ski jumping hills, and a cross-country skiing tracks.

Planica hosts a world-famous event at the end of the ski flying season. The FIS final in Planica is the sporting highlight of winter in Slovenia, attracting thousands of visitors and fans of this sport every year.

The Gorišek Brothers Ski Jumping Centre hosts the extreme running Red Bull 400 every year. It is the highest 400-meter hill race in the world. More than 1,000 competitors from all over the world take part in the competition.

Tromeja

Peč (also Tromeja) in Italian Monte Forno and in German Dreiländereck is a 1508 m high peak, located on the border between Slovenia, Italy and Austria. From the top opens a beautiful view of the Julian Alps, the Silesian Alps, the Higher and Lower Tauren and part of the western Karavanken. From the Austrian side, the ski lift of the nearby Podklošter / Arnoldstein ski resort bring you almost to the top. Every year, on the second Sunday in September, a meeting of hikers from all three countries is organized at the top, what regularly attracts several thousand visitors.
